What is Active Release Technique (A.R.T.)?
Active Release Technique (ART)
A.R.T is a state of the art soft tissue movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Once fibrotic tissue is determined by the practitioner, the patient is put in a position which shortens the specific muscle in question. The muscle is then actively lengthened by the patient while pressure is placed over the fibrotic tissue. Unlike our muscles, fibrotic tissue is not contractile so it breaks when it is put into a lengthened position. Breaking up fibrotic tissue relieves pain and increases range of motion ultimately allowing for optimal healing.
What is an A.R.T. treatment like?
Every ART session is a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.
These treatment protocols - over 500 specific moves - are unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. When used in conjunction with Chiropractic manipulation, ART allows for very unique care for each patient's condition.
